A more accessible trading experience that took Bitstamp into the top 10 global crypto platforms and brought in a new generation of users.
Project Overview
In 2022, I led the early strategy and design work for a new Bitstamp trading platform aimed at a younger, more diverse audience. Their existing product was well-established among experienced traders, but the team wanted to broaden its appeal. I helped shape the direction of this new product, contributing to the overall positioning, initial vision, exploring early concepts, and delivering key UX foundations including; wireframes, user flows, and first-round designs. It was a collaborative project that blended strategic thinking with practical design to create a more accessible trading experience.

Project Approach
We started by getting close to the world of crypto trading, speaking with stakeholders and digging into competitor platforms to spot gaps and opportunities. Alongside the research, we explored market trends and shaped key personas to guide our thinking. From this, we crafted a clear, forward-looking vision for a new kind of trading experience. When we shared the concept with Bitstamp, the response was hugely positive.
With a clear direction in place, we moved into validation, testing early ideas with potential users to make sure the concept had legs. The feedback was encouraging and gave us the confidence to move forward. We then mapped out user flows and created low-fidelity wireframes to stress-test the experience. This helped us communicate ideas with stakeholders, while not over committing on designs.
As we moved into UI design, we built a custom design system to support the product as it evolved. It gave us a strong foundation for the visual design and came in handy when Bitstamp changed their brand identity later in the process, and the designs had to reflect that.





Project Outcome
The result was an app that made crypto trading accessible to newcomers, allowing them to invest in assets that align with their interests and values. One of the key challenges was simplifying complex trading concepts without losing depth for more experienced users. We also had to navigate regulatory constraints and ensure the experience remained clear and compliant throughout.
By grounding the work in solid UX strategy and design, we helped Bitstamp reach their goal of breaking into the top 10 global crypto platforms on the App Store within 12 months.
The platform not only exceeded expectations and met business goals—it also earned a UX Design Award for Best Product, recognising the strength of the user experience and impact of the work.
